August Favorites | 2014

August is one of my favorite months because a lot of fun things tend to happen (One Direction concerts two Augusts in a row!), I'm usually reunited with my cousins and with friends who are visiting from college, and it means we're thisclose to autumn and more importantly, the pumpkin spice latte is upon us! Unfortunately, August also means returning to school and while I used to love the anticipation that comes along with it, 1000 pages of reading in the first week basically kills any desire I've ever had to continue my education (and is to blame for my sparse blog posts, soz). Ramble aside, let's get on to my first monthly faves blog post, shall we?

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
This is such a beaut! The hype around this product could not be more fitting. This palette is so luxurious and applies so well. There isn't a shade in the palette I wouldn't wear and apart from the fallout in Dust, the formulation is actual buttery goodness. I had three favorite ways to wear this palette this month. One way was by applying Trick all over the lid, on its own. Trick is a peachy copper with loads of shimmer and just screams summer. I also love pairing Limit all over the lid with Nooner in the crease. Limit is a matte rosy pink and Nooner is more of a rosy mauve/plum. Nooner is my favorite and like, 98% why I decided to buy this palette. My final look that I have been going to a lot is Liar all over with Darkside in the crease and winged out. I'm surprised I love this look so much as the colors are darker than my usual taste, but they are more along the bronze side with a hint of rose gold? The same rose/pink/gold that is found throughout the palette. Basically, this palette is everything and if you like rosy eyeshadows, this is for you!

Elizabeth Mott Tints & Sass Lip Tint
I received this in my Ipsy bag and was SO excited! I love my Benefit Benetint and Lollitint, so naturally this seemed like a good alternative. I love the red shade and the ability of a cheek stain to appear so natural. This product is a lot stronger than my Benefit lip and cheek stains as it dispenses more product on the first try, whereas I can usually build up the Benefit products. If I feel like my cheeks are too prominent, I just use my foundation brush to remove the excess and voila! Healthy, cheeky glow!

POPBeauty Sunkissed Bronzer
I cannot believe I'm including a bronzer as a fave! I have been TERRIFIED of bronzers because I am so light-skinned, it is difficult to find a bronzer that isn't too muddy, orange, or red on my skin. This one can get too dark, but it is so easy to blend or again, remove the excess with my foundation brush/sponge. I have really noticed a difference in my face shape since using this to lightly contour and I love the slight color this gives me. I also think it looks great on its own.

NUXE Reve de Miel
I didn't get the hype around this product at first buy BOY WAS I WRONG. This is a thick lip balm with really subtle exfoliants and slathering it on just before bed allows me to wake up with the softest lips. Full product rave here.

L'Oréal Magic De-Crease Eyelid Primer
This is my first true venture into the world of eye primers and I get it, I get it. How was I living without eye primers before?? I never really understood what it meant when eye shadows creased (and I should have known because my eyelids are sooo oily), but now that I've experienced life with perfect eye shadow that lasts all day, I can never return to my creased, savage ways. I have samples of the Urban Decay Primer Potion eye shadow primers and I think this is a major dupe at a greatly reduced cost. Literally life-changing!

L'Oréal Magic Lumi Highlighter Concealer
Promise I'm not sponsored by L'Oreal! These guys just know how to do dupes at fab drugstore prices! I bought this because I heard it was basically the YSL Touché Eclat and even though I didn't exactly know what it did, I knew I needed it in my life. Initially I was disappointed because I thought it was supposed to conceal and it didn't really, but I dug it out of my stash five months after I tossed it aside and fell in love! I apply it in a triangle shape under my eyes and sometimes above my lips and around my brows and this just adds the most stunning highlight! It breathes new life into my skin and illuminates and even conceals! No, this isn't heavy duty concealer that's going to hid every flaw, but it brightens so much that I like the more natural and youthful effect it gives over the heavy concealing I get elsewhere.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser and Moisturizer
My skin has been on a roller coaster lately, where I have quite good days where I only need the coverage of a BB cream or tinted moisturizer to even the skin tone, or I have really awful days where concealer is my best friend. Of course, the bad days last longer than the good ones, so I've been really trying to let my skin breathe and use products that are formulated for sensitivity and that feel like they're giving my face a deep cleanse. These two products are specified for normal to oily skin and are unscented. The cleanser doesn't lather too much, which bothered me at first because my mentality was the more bubbles, the cleaner my face. Now, I understand the lack of bubbles and foam are to retain hydration and elasticity. The moisturizer is so hydrating, it feels so nice on my skin! I also use it on my arms/elbows/hands when they're extremely parched. My face definitely misses this pair when I don't use it, so they've become staples in my evening skincare routine.
